The Gnostic treaty on Resurrection - Hope Taylor

The Gnostic Treaty on Resurrection
From the Nag Hammadi, translated and edited by Bintley Layton Yale University.

The author of these documents is well educated and well acquainted with Paul, the New Testament, Pluto, Clements of Alexandria and other current writers and claims to have known personally Jesus.

Here are a few quotes:

Resurrection is an exchange and a migration.

Do not doubt resurrection.

Resurrection pertains to the domain of the real and the incorruptible, not to what is visible and in flux.

Obviously the pre-condition for definite escape from flesh is separation at the moment of death. The preparation for this escape must begin now and in our present life time.

In Christianity this imagery is the earliest attested by Paul in his writings (where however the luminosity of the new body is not mentioned) (Editors comment)

The Saviour swallowed death. You must not be unperceptive: for I mean that laying aside the perishable world, He exchanged it for an un-perishing eternal realm.

For we are personally acquainted with the Son of Man, and have come to believe that He arose from the dead, and the one of whom we say: ‘He became death’s undoing.’

Do not suppose that resurrection is an apparition. It is not an apparition, it is something real…..which became possible through our Lord, the Saviour, Jesus the Excellent.

Resurrection is what is real. It is what is constant and the revealing of what truly exists. And it is what one receives in exchange for the circumstances of this world, and a migration into newness.

Those which I have received through the generosity of my Lord, Jesus the excellent.
