Jeremiah 25 – I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
I will put my way into their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. – because I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.
Isaiah 40 – Comfort, comfort my people, says your God. Speak tenderly and proclaim that her hard service has been completed, that she has received from the LORD’s hand adouble blessing for all her sins.
(Forgiving you gives me relief so you do not have to worry any longer that I will bring you harm. And since I forgive you, you can forgive yourself and be relieved, and finally turn about and get on with your life. A double blessing! Relief for me and relief for you. Love your neighbor exactly the same way. Another double blessing. Relief for you and relief for him. No payback from you and hopefully a turnabout by him.) –
You who bring good tidings, go up on a high mountain. You who bring good tidings, lift up your voice with a shout, lift it up, do not be afraid; say to the towns, “Here is your God!” See, the Sovereign LORD comes with power, his reward is with him, and his recompense accompanies him.
The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
Let the nations renew their strength! Who has done this and carried it through, calling forth the generations from the beginning? I, the LORD – with the first of them and with the last – I am he. You, whom I have chosen, I took you from the ends of the earth, from its farthest corners I called you. I said, “You are my children. I have chosen you and have not rejected you. So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Though you search for your enemies, you will not find them. Those who wage war against you will be as nothing at all. For I am the LORD, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, “Do not fear; I will help you. Do not be afraid, for I myself will help you, declares the LORD, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.”
You will rejoice in the LORD and glory in the Holy One. The poor and needy search for water, but there is none; their tongues are parched with thirst. But I the LORD will answer them; I will not forsake them. I will make rivers flow on barren heights, and springs within the valleys. I will turn the desert into pools of water, and the parched ground into springs, so that people may see and know, may consider and understand, that the hand of the LORD has done this, that the Holy One has created it.
This is what God the LORD says – he who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and all that comes out of it, who gives breath to its people, and life to those who walk on it: I, the LORD, have called you in righteousness; I will take hold of your hand. I will keep you and will make you to be a covenant for all people and a light for all, to open eyes that are blind, to free captives from prison and to release from the dungeon those who sit in darkness.
I am the LORD; that is my name! I will not give my glory to another or my praise to idols. See, the former things have taken place, and new things I declare; before they spring into being I announce them to you.
Sing to the LORD a new song, his praise from the ends of the earth, you who go down to the sea, and all that is in it, you islands, and all who live in them. Let the desert and its towns raise their voices; let the settlements rejoice. Let the people sing for joy; let them shout from the mountaintops. Let them give glory to the LORD and proclaim his praise in the islands.
For a long time I have kept silent, I have been quiet and held myself back. But now, like a woman in childbirth, I cry out, I gasp and pant. I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them.
Hear, you deaf; look, you blind, and see! But now, this is what the LORD says – he who created you, he who formed you: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. For I am the LORD, your God, the Holy One, your Savior.
Do not be afraid, for I am with you; I will bring your children from the east and gather you from the west. I will say to the north, “Give them up!” and to the south, Do not hold them back.” Bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the ends of the earth, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made. Lead out those who have eyes but are blind, who have ears but are deaf.
Before me no god was formed, nor will there be one after me. I, even I, am the LORD, and apart from me there is no savior. I have revealed and saved and proclaimed – I, and not some foreign god among you. You are my witnesses, declares the LORD, that I am God. Yes, and from ancient days I am he. When I act, who can reverse it?
This is what the LORD says – your Redeemer, the Holy One: I am the LORD, your Holy One, Creator, your King. This is what the LORD says: Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland. I provide water in the desert and streams in the wasteland, to give drink to my people, my chosen, the people I formed for myself that they may proclaim my praise.
I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more. You are saved by the LORD with an everlasting salvation; you will never be put to shame or disgraced, to ages everlasting.
For this is what the LORD says – he who created the heavens, he is God; he who fashioned and made the earth, he founded it; he did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited – he says: I am the LORD, and there is no other. I have not spoken in secret, from somewhere in a land of darkness. I, the LORD, speak the truth; I declare what is right.
And there is no God apart from me, a righteous God and a Savior; there is none but me. Turn to me and be saved, all you ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no other.
By myself I have sworn, my mouth has uttered in all integrity a word that will not be revoked: They will say of me, “In the LORD alone are righteousness and strength.” In the LORD all my children will be found righteous and will exult. Listen to me, you stubborn-hearted, you who are far from righteousness. I am bringing my righteousness near, it is not far away; and my salvation will not be delayed. I will grant salvation. Our Redeemer – the LORD Almighty is his name – is the Holy One.
Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed, says the LORD, who has compassion on you.
Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and your soul will delight in the richest of fare. Give ear and come to me; hear me, that your soul may live.
I will make an everlasting covenant with you. Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts. (of payback) Let him turn to the LORD, and he will have mercy on him, and to our God, for he will freely pardon. (no conditions) For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. Maintain (my) justice (forgiveness)and do what is right, (love one another) for my salvation is close and my righteousness is now revealed. Blessed is the man who does this, the man who holds it fast. ( ) –
Ezekiel 34 – For this is what the Sovereign LORD says: I myself will search for my sheep and look after them. As a shepherd looks after his scattered flock when he is with them, so will I look after my sheep. I will rescue them from all the places where they were scattered on a day of clouds and darkness. I will bring them out from the nations and gather them from the countries, and I will bring them into their own land. I will pasture them, in the ravines and in all the settlements in the land. I will tend them in a good pasture, and the mountain heights will be their grazing land. There they will lie down in good grazing land, and there they will feed in a rich pasture on the mountains. I myself will tend my sheep and have them lie down, declares the Sovereign LORD. I will search for the lost and bring back the strays. I will bind up the injured and strengthen the weak, but the sleek and the strong I will destroy. I will shepherd the flock with (my) justice (acceptance and forgiveness). I will save my flock, and they will no longer be plundered. I the LORD have spoken.
I will bless them and the places surrounding my hill. I will send down showers in season; there will be showers of blessing. The trees of the field will yield their fruit and the ground will yield its crops; the people will be secure in their land. They will know that I am the LORD, when I break the bars of their yoke and rescue them from the hands of those who enslaved them. They will no longer be plundered by the nations. They will live in safety, and no one will make them afraid. I will provide for them a land renowned for its crops, and they will no longer be victims of famine in the land or bear the scorn of the nations. Then they will know that I, the LORD their God, am with them and that they are my people, declares the Sovereign LORD. You my sheep, the sheep of my pasture, are people, and I am your God, declares the Sovereign LORD.
Then the nations will know that I am the LORD, declares the Sovereign LORD, when I show myself holy through you before their eyes. For I will take you out of the nations; I will gather you from all the countries and bring you back into your own land. I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols.
I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.
I will make a covenant of peace with them; it will be an everlasting covenant. I will establish them and increase their numbers, and I will put my sanctuary among them forever. My dwelling place will be with them; (in them) I will be their God, and they will be my people. Then the nations will know that I the LORD make them holy, when my sanctuary is among them forever. (God’s “kingdom” here and now and forever!) –
Hosea 6 & 11 – I will have mercy, not sacrifice. It was I who taught you to walk, taking you by the arms; but you did not realize it was I who healed you. I led you with cords of human kindness, with ties of love; I lifted the yoke from your neck and bent down to feed you; all my compassion is aroused. For I am God, and not man – the Holy One among you. I will not come in wrath.
I will heal your waywardness and love you freely. (unconditionally) I will be like the dew; he will blossom like a lily. The ways of the LORD are right; the righteous walk in them.
Micah 7 Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgressions of his inheritance? You delight to show mercy. You will again have compassion on us; you will tread our sins underfoot and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea.
Zephaniah 3 – Then will I purify the lips of the peoples, that all of them may call on the name of the LORD. On that day you will not be put to shame for all the wrongs you have done to me. You will do no wrong; they will speak no lies, nor will deceit be found in their mouths. Sing; shout aloud! Be glad and rejoice with all your heart!
The LORD has taken away your punishment, he has turned back your enemy. The LORD, the King, is with you; never again will you fear any harm. The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.”
I will rescue the lame and gather those who have been scattered. I will give them praise and honor in every land where they were put to shame. I will gather you; I will bring you home. I will give you honor and praise among all the peoples of the earth when I restore your fortunes before your very eyes, says the LORD.
Zechariah 2 – Shout and be glad. I am coming, and I will live among you, declares the LORD. Many nations will be joined with the LORD in that day and will become my people. I will live among you and you will know that the LORD Almighty has been sent to you.
This is what the LORD Almighty says: Administer true justice: show mercy and compassion to one another. Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the alien or the poor. In your hearts do not think evil of each other.
I will restore you because I have compassion on you, for I am the LORD your God and I will answer you. You will become like mighty men, and your hearts will be glad as with wine. Your children will see it and be joyful; their hearts will rejoice in the LORD. I will signal for them and gather them in. In distant lands they will remember me. They and their children will survive, and they will return. I will bring them back and gather them. I will bring them. I will strengthen them in the LORD and in his name they will walk, declares the LORD.
